SHAKUHACHI
The Japanese Bambooflute
The shakuhachi is a traditional Japanese instrument whose origins can be traced back over 1000 years. It has a deep cultural and spiritual significance in Japan and was played by Buddhist monks and samurai, among others.
At first glance, the Shakuhachi is a very simple instrument, consisting only of a bamboo cane with 5 finger holes. But behind this simplicity lies an incomparably expressive instrument that differs significantly from other flutes.
The Shakuhachi sounds mystical and meditative
and the next moment wild and eccentric.
Those who feel called by its sound
often find in it a companion for life.
My name is Robin "Ryūgo Tamura,
I'm a licensed Shakuhachi master, actively performing and teaching students from all over the world.
To me, playing the Shakuhachi is a means of self-exploration and self-expression. In my music, I aim to combine technical proficiency with spiritual depth, inviting listeners into a liminal space.
Feel free to contact me for performances and lessons.
